Having gone through various stages of fitness and never really finding the one form of exercise that really motivated me to stick with it, I started following different people on YouTube to find something I could do at home with minimal space and no equipment, or at least very little equipment, required.
There are some really good people to follow there, but for me, the one that I return to most days is Yes2Next. It's a Japanese American mum and daughter who are really fun to work along with. April, the daughter is a good fitness instructor designing programmes for people 60+, encouraging us to get moving at our own level and at our own pace. The exercises are simple but effective and mum, Aiko demonstrates the chair based version these days and jokes about doing the senior version of each exercise.
They are relaxed about timing mistakes or Aiko's problem with coordinating herself with some of the exercises and for me, that just makes it all the more natural and enjoyable. I'm not feeling stressed about keeping up or getting the sequence right so it makes it much more easy for me to keep moving throughout the workouts.
They also have a cat Mochi who sometimes likes to get in on the video and again that just seems so much more engaging and fun. I've found that is what keeps me motivated and there are plenty of different videos for me to change up my routine a little so that I don't get complacent or bored.
What are the things that you find most difficult about maintaining an exercise routine? Time, motivation, energy levels?
Since using my patch technology my energy level has improved and also my recovery time after exercise. As someone who suffered with C7 pain for years that always made exercise a real trial for me so being pain free these days is a real blessing. It means that although there are times when I may overdo it a little when exercising, I recover quickly and feel like a normal person for the first time in a long time.
Nowadays it's hard for me to remember I'm over 60 whereas just a few short months ago many days I felt older :)
